Costs & Sponsor: The US$35,000 for this school was generously funded by the group “Markus & Friends”: Valerij, Alexander, Pascal, Benjamin, Stephan, Timo, Frankie.

Children: 100 - 150, from 5 to 15 years old, girls and boys in equal numbers.

Teachers: 2 teachers, employed by the Senegal public education board.

School building: Reinforced concrete, 140m2, two classrooms.

Construction started in Nov. 2025, managed by build On. The Gawane community, organized through a school building committee of six men and six women, proudly contributed 2,308 volunteer workdays to the building of their new school. Children are in class since Jan. 2026

School Visit: In May 2026, a group of sponsors visited the school and had the unique opportunity to meet with parents, students, and teachers. The sponsors spent time talking with community members, learning about the local culture, and gaining a deeper understanding of the community's hopes and aspirations for the future.

The visit offered a firsthand look at the transformative power of education on children, their families, and the community. The visit was an unforgettable experience for the visitors and local community members alike, strengthening friendships and reinforcing a shared commitment to improving educational opportunities.
